History and setting
Bailey sits along US-285 in the North Fork of the South Platte River drainage, in lodgepole and ponderosa pine.
The 2002 Hayman Fire—still Colorado's largest recorded wildfire—burned to within miles of the community.
Elk Creek Fire, Platte Canyon Fire, and the Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District support a joint Firewise effort across the canyon.
