History and setting
Idyllwild sits at 5,400 feet in the San Jacinto Mountains, surrounded by Jeffrey pine, incense cedar, and dense chaparral.
The 2013 Mountain Fire burned within a few miles of town and reshaped the community's approach to defensible space and evacuation planning.
The Mountain Communities Fire Safe Council coordinates the Firewise program across Idyllwild, Pine Cove, and Mountain Center.
